A nice early start today ready for our day out from the campsite. It is amazing how the desire to escape has grown and grown – especially since we arrived only a couple of days ago. We set off back on the road we had come in on and literally the moment we crossed over the boundary line of the National Park the sea of plastic was visible. Enjoying a beautiful cloudless blue sky we did our best to admire the distant views of all the mountain ranges in this corner of Spain and to not see the plastic. We headed north to a small town called San Isidro where we found a large supermarket and bought as much food as we could fit into the limited storage space in our food lockers and fridge/freezer. We then headed off to the bigger town in this region called Nijar. We accidentally drove through the town along ever narrowing roads until we reached the highest point where the road in front of us was only 2m wide and we are wider than that! A ten point turn saw us going back down the way we had come up and this was when we started seeing the many signs that our chosen road was definitely not suitable for large campervans. Note to self: watch out for narrow roads and dead ends in small, remote towns and read all the helpful signs. Today was the weekly market and it was closing as we arrived – still looking for parking. We risked getting a parking ticket and parked in the market car park which was technically not open for another hour. We enjoyed a walk around this very pretty town and had a beer and a couple of Tapas dishes sat outside a bar at the top of the steep hill beside the church. This is what holidays are all about! Once back at our campsite we had a rest and sat in the sunshine for a couple of hours. Just to make sure we were properly exhausted we played Ping Pong for an hour.
Best: The bluest of blue skies and not getting a parking ticket.
Worst: Having to turn the car and go back down the tiny roads in Nijar whilst being watched by the locals who probably see this happen several times every day!
