Day 23

Wednesday 12th March

Definitely settling into the routine of campervan life. We are off to Malaga tomorrow which means a morning of packing up WOY, driving to Malaga and setting up there, with a stop for groceries on the way. After Malaga we are off to Granada leaving there on the morning of the 20th. We have to be back in Bilbao by Friday 28th. Still plenty of days to come but the time is racing by. Today we caught a bus to the next town along the coast to visit Castillo de Salobrena. This castle has been built on a hill and is 73m above sea level. Now, it is 500m from the sea but, in the Middle Ages, the sea reached the bottom of the hill. The castle was a fortress for many centuries, under many rulers, but once the sea receded from the hill, the castle lost its defensive front towards the sea. Decline was inevitable but it leaves a lot of interesting information in its stonework and fantastic panoramic views – especially the view towards the snow covered Sierra Nevada mountains.

Best: We were leaving the campsite for the first time with clear skies. We looked around and saw the snow covered mountains which were a back drop to Modril. What a beautiful surprise.

Worst: Storm due in Malaga? Do we delay travelling to our next (beachside!) campsite?
