We were well prepared for an early start today as we had done lots of packing, emptying and then re-packing of lockers to get everything stored in an acceptable way. We managed to start off at 10.30. We were on good roads all along the coast and most of them looked brand new. If you looked up at the mountains and sky the scenery on our journey was stunning. However, looking at the flat lands between the mountains and the sea it seemed that every inch was covered in plastic polytunnels. This area is the main fruit and vegetable growing area in Spain and supplies 25% of the vegetables imported into the UK, rising to 80% of our lettuce! We sang “Happy Birthday” to granddaughter Polly on the phone. New campsite is called Camping Playa de Poniente, located 100m from the sandy beach in Modril in the Province of Granada. Luckily the pitches were mostly gravel so we were able to have hardstanding but all the roads around this small/medium site are tarmac and some of the puddles (following on from weeks of heavy rain!), were enormous. There is a restaurant on site, a small shop which stocks everything you could need and also a playground and outdoor pool.
Best: Moving on and the promise of something new.
Worst: We drove into torrential rain and, as we drove along, every other vehicle appeared to be a motorhome going the other way…
