Day 17

Thursday 6th March 2025

What a difference a day makes. Wind still blowing but no rain so we made an early start. We walked as far as we could for an hour, then turned back. We were just under 12,000 steps so we were very proud of ourselves. Part of our walk took in a headland which looked back towards the beach nearest to our campsite, Playa los Escullos. Parts of the walk were on the side of the main road to San Jose and it was great to see every driver coming towards us pull away from the edge to give us plenty of space. Impressive. Courtesy like this is definitely not seen in many places that we have visited. Away from the roadside there are several paths on an undulating route with a lot of steep slopes and cliff edges. We were happy to turn back at the hour mark as neither of us fancied the risk of a fall (being a couple of cautious old crocks!). This site offers lots of activities for adults as well as children and is very, very popular in the summer months. It is a place where you definitely need a car – but if you are keen hikers there are walking routes in every direction.

Best: We really enjoyed the walk.

Worst: The fish and chips in the restaurant.
